The truth is that one can hardly be described as an island of Syros, the history and cultural activity, the beauties of nature and of the settlements, naval and industrial wealth of the city, its past and its future.
Finding no one on the map to tell the Syrian, imagine a typical Aegean island, populated along the coast, bare and barren.

Yet the island looming in the horizon is a real revelation for the traveler. Amphitheatrically built, extending over two hills of Ano Syros with its well-preserved medieval urban form and the Resurrection. Two cities next to each other, testify to the rare and long-term coexistence of Catholics and Orthodox Christians of the island and make it even more noticeable difference in the face of all the Cycladic islands. But not only the natural beauty that so generously presented by the Syrian visitors and the glorious history that reaches up to 4000 years.

The creation of Syros, the capital of the Cyclades in the early 19th century by refugees from Chios, Psara, Smyrna, Kydonies and other Greek places a milestone for modern Greek history. The name owes to the first settlers, in honor of the ancient god of commerce Hermes. At a minimum period Ermoupoli changed very important city, full of commercial and intellectual and artistic movement and became the largest port in the country. Result of prosperity was the establishing mansions and public buildings designed by great architects, Greeks and foreigners, believers in the early neoclassical style. Examples include the majestic and architectural beauty of the Concert Hall, the work of German architect Ernst Ziller, which dominates the city center, the Apollo Theatre with an impressive internal architecture of Italian models, miniature of La Scala in Milan as described, the church Assumption that is hosting the homonym list of El Greco, the church of St. Nicholas of the rich, the patron saint of Syros and protector of seafarers, the blue dome and bell towers, and the district Vaporia, the aristocratic district of the city, the magnificent neoclassical mansions with their monumental murals and now orfografies and beautiful views of the sea.

We could not of course neglect to mention the resorts, seaside or not the island. Each has a color and uniqueness. The Chroussa, the Bishopric, the Posidonia or Ntellagkratsia, favorite resorts of the rich Ermoupolis, with impressive mansions, lush green pines and palm trees, landscapes that evoke other times, full of splendor and secularism.

The seaside villages Agathopes, Weights, Galissas, Azolimnos, Megas Gialos, Kini, Phoenix, with sandy beaches for water sports enthusiasts, with plenty of hotels and rooms where one can enjoy a swim and eat fresh seafood traditional tavernas on the waterfront. After sunset, the beaches glow lights and flooded with people having fun until dawn.

The sheltered coves ideal for romantic walks and relaxation.

But no one can say that the island faced, if not walk the streets stenodroma, the paths between the picturesque houses of Ano Syros, if not enjoy the breathtaking view from the hill. The Syrians are proud of the medieval city that was built and expanded amphitheater by the Franks, according to the traditional Cycladic architecture and fortress still preserved almost intact. The Ano Hora, characteristically called by the inhabitants, mostly Catholics, has much to tell the visitor.
